Baseball Game Preview: John Marshall Justices vs. Southampton Indians

The John Marshall Justices will face off against the Southampton Indians at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

John Marshall is headed into Monday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight game on Thursday. They lost 27-13 to Maggie Walker. Even if the Justices couldn't come away with the victory, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.

Chris Stallings made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of William Stone III, who went 1-for-3 with four RBI, one run, and one double.

Meanwhile, Southampton was not the first on the board last Friday, but they got there more often. They put the hurt on Deep Creek with a sharp 17-6 win. The Indians might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four games by nine runs or more this season.

Tyler Duke was a standout: he got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs and two RBI. River Barnes was another key player, getting on base in four of his six plate appearances with three RBI and two runs.

Southampton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

John Marshall's loss dropped their record down to 4-7. As for Southampton, they now have a winning record of 4-3.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. John Marshall has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Southampton struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
