Volleyball Recap: South Mecklenburg Starts off Right with Win over Charlotte Catholic

South Mecklenburg had to kick off their season on the road on Monday, but they showed no ill effects. Everything went their way against the Charlotte Catholic Cougars as the South Mecklenburg Sabres made off with a 3-0 win. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Sabres as it put an end to their four-game losing streak dating back to last season.

While South Mecklenburg won a shutout, things came down to the wire in the third set they played. The match finished with set scores of 25-7, 25-9, 25-23.

Phoenix Modie paced South Mecklenburg's offense, picking up six kills. Modie really made an impact as he also led the team in assists with eight. He was also solid from the service line: he led the team with six aces.

South Mecklenburg wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 3-0 win against Sun Valley on the 4th. As for Charlotte Catholic, they are headed away from home for the first time to square off against East Mecklenburg at 5:00 p.m. on March 11th. Charlotte Catholic is coming into the contest on a 13-game losing streak dating back to last season.
