Baseball Game Preview: Glenbard South Raiders vs. Downers Grove North Trojans

The Glenbard South Raiders will challenge the Downers Grove North Trojans at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Glenbard South will be strutting in after a victory while Downers Grove North will be coming in after a defeat.

Downers Grove North will be up against a hot Glenbard South squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. The Raiders came out on top against Wheeling by a score of 7-3 on Saturday.

Owen Marshall looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Glenbard South is 2-1 when Marshall allows three or fewer hits, but 10-11 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Tommy Burke was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Gavin Pogorzelski, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Meanwhile, Downers Grove North didn't have quite enough to beat Glenbard West on Friday and fell 3-2. The Trojans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Jimmy Reilly was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Downers Grove North saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Russ Oros, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI.

Downers Grove North's loss dropped their record down to 19-5. As for Glenbard South, the win got them back to even at 12-12.

Glenbard South beat Downers Grove North 8-3 when the teams last played back in March of 2019. Will the Raiders repeat their success, or do the Trojans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
