Basketball Recap: Tahj Mclemore's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Overton over Cane Ridge

Overton lost against Cane Ridge back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Overton Bobcats took a 60-47 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cane Ridge Ravens. While losing is never fun, the Bobcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 244th, while the Ravens are ranked 76th).

Several Bobcats players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Tahj McLemore, who posted ten points along with six rebounds and three steals. William Livingston was another key player, putting up nine points.

Even though they lost, Overton smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in five consecutive contests.

Leading Cane Ridge to victory were Tyshaun Poore and Adam Clark. Poore went 7 for 11 on his way to 17 points in addition to eight boards and four steals, while Clark went 5 of 11 en route to 14 points along with six rebounds and three steals. The dominant performance gave Poore a new career-high in steals. Another player making a difference was Jamari Hardyway, who scored eight points.

Overton dropped their record down to 7-7 with the loss, which was their third straight at home. As for Cane Ridge, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-3.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Overton will face off against Hillsboro at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Overton is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.1 points per game this season. As for Cane Ridge, they will challenge LEAD Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Cane Ridge's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last five matchups.
