Baseball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Upper Scioto Valley

Upper Scioto Valley came out on top against Waynesfield-Goshen on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run fifth inning. The Rams sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-5 win over the Tigers. Winning may never get old, but the Rams sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Maddox Underwood was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over seven innings while giving up five earned runs off eight hits (and only one walk). He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Upper Scioto Valley is 3-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 4-7 otherwise. Underwood was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs.

Underwood wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Wyatt Davis, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI. That's the most hits Davis has posted since back in May of 2024.

Upper Scioto Valley's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-8. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Waynesfield-Goshen, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-10.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Upper Scioto Valley will challenge Cory-Rawson at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Waynesfield-Goshen, they will take on Spencerville at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
