Basketball Recap: Godby Comes Up Short

Godby has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They received a blow on Tuesday as they fell 72-58 to the Florida State University High School Seminoles. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cougars this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 74-51 last Saturday.

When it comes to explaining why Godby lost, don't look at Mekhi Butler. Despite the final result, he went 6 of 14 on his way to 15 points and five rebounds. Terrell Ceasor was another key player, putting up 11 points.

Florida State University High School's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Trey Card, who went 8 for 15 en route to 19 points along with six boards and three blocks. The game was Card's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Iyran Francis, who went 6 of 7 on his way to 12 points and four blocks.

Godby's defeat dropped their record down to 12-5. As for Florida State University High School, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-4.

Godby has already played their next contest, a 59-50 victory against St. John Paul II on the 16th. As for Florida State University High School, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 72-67 loss against Andrew Jackson on the 18th.
