Baseball Game Preview: Monroe Cheesemakers vs. Dodgeville Dodgers

The Monroe Cheesemakers will square off against the Dodgeville Dodgers at 4:45 p.m. on Monday. Monroe is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.

On Friday, Monroe was able to grind out a solid victory over Clinton, taking the game 8-5.

Owen Hicks was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He pitched 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Hicks was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Marcus Ott, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Cole Meighan was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Dodgeville sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 win over Platteville on Friday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Dodgers.

Dodgeville's victory was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Jack Graber, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run. Another was Caden Schneider, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.

Dodgeville's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-3. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Monroe, their win bumped their record up to 9-5.
