Baseball Game Preview: Richlands Wildcats vs. Swansboro Pirates

Richlands is 0-10 against Swansboro since April of 2017 but things could change on Tuesday. The Wildcats will be playing in front of their home fans against the Pirates at 7:00 p.m.

Richlands fell victim to West Carteret and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They lost 10-0 to the Patriots. The Wildcats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, Swansboro came tearing into Friday's match with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 3.5 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They were the clear victors by an 11-4 margin over the Cougars. Considering the Pirates' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Dean Germosen was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kevin Till, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.

Swansboro was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Croatan only posted a batting average of .194.

Swansboro's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-4. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games. As for Richlands, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-7.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Richlands has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Swansboro struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.5 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
