Softball Recap: Salem Snaps Nine-Game Streak of Wins on the Road

Salem dropped their record down to 17-6-1 on Sunday, which also ended the team's nine-game streak of wins on the road. They came up short against the Allen Park Jaguars, falling 13-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Rocks have suffered since May 15, 2024.

As for Allen Park, they are on a roll lately: they've won 14 of their last 16 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 26-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.1 runs on average over those games.

For Allen Park's part, Melody Filipiak tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits. Filipiak has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Mallory Hool and Mya Brandenburg did most of the damage at the plate: Hool went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Brandenburg went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most hits Hool has posted over her last ten games. Mak Sitarski was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.

Coming up, Salem will venture away from home to square off against Stevenson at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Allen Park, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, an 11-2 win against Airport on the 18th.
