Soccer Game Preview: Desert Vista vs. Ironwood

The Desert Vista Thunder will head out to face off against the Ironwood Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Desert Vista has five straight wins, Ironwood has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the pitch.

Last Wednesday, Desert Vista sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 victory over Browne. Given the Thunder's advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona soccer rankings (they are ranked 13th, while the Bruins are ranked 87th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Wednesday just wasn't the day for Ironwood's offense. They lost 5-0 to Canyon View on Wednesday.

Desert Vista has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 21 goals over those seven games. As for Ironwood, their loss dropped their record down to 4-6-1.

Desert Vista beat Ironwood by a goal when the teams last played back in February of 2015, winning 1-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Desert Vista since the squad won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
