Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Payton College Prep). They never let the Latin Romans get on the board and left with a 20-0 win on Wednesday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Grizzlies needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.
Saya Tanabe was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over seven innings pitched. Those seven strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of her six plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Sophie Spreen was a standout: she went 4-for-5 with five stolen bases, three runs, and two doubles. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Athena Corrales, who went 4-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple.
Payton College Prep kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 24 hits. They are 7-3 when they post 11 or more hits.
The victory got Payton College Prep back to even at 11-11. As for Latin, their loss dropped their record down to 3-8.
Coming up, Payton College Prep will host Fenwick at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Latin, they are taking a road trip to take on Horizon Science Academy McKinley Park at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
