Basketball Recap: Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary Snaps Five-Game Streak of Losses at Home

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Verbum Dei Jesuit, Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary was happy to have turned things around on Saturday. They were the clear victor by a 67-43 margin over the Downtown Magnets Suns. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Cardinals as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.

Leading Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary to victory were Jose Padilla and Nathan Contreras. Padilla posted 20 points, while Contreras put up 19 points. Padilla's afternoon made it 14 games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Gio Chavez, who scored 11 points.

Despite the loss, Downtown Magnets saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Patrick Lei had 17 points and eight rebounds. Lei is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last four games he's played. Gabriel Prieto was another key player, putting up eight points.

Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary's win ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 15-12. As for Downtown Magnets, their defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 17-7.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary will host Mary Star of the Sea at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.6 points per game this season. As for Downtown Magnets, they will be playing at home against Aspire Ollin at 2:30 p.m. on Monday. Downtown Magnets also hasn't been messing around on offense: they've averaged 52.9 points per game.
