Basketball Recap: Franklin Academy Comes Up Short

Franklin Academy played a tough contest on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were outmatched by the Highlands Christian Knights and fell 79-52. The Panthers were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 48-25.

Highlands Christian's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Angel Scomparin led the charge by going 14 for 21 on his way to 35 points in addition to six assists and four steals. The matchup was Scomparin's tenth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Aydin Crawford, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 13 boards.

Franklin Academy is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-4. As for Highlands Christian, their victory ended an eight-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 4-6.

After both having extra time off, Franklin Academy and Cristo Rey will dust off their jerseys to take on one another at 6:00 p.m. on January 8, 2025. As for Highlands Christian, they will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Palmetto Ridge at 1:45 p.m. on January 1, 2025.
