Softball Recap: Taft Comes Up Short

Taft extended their losing streak to four on Friday, dropping them down to 18-10. They lost 15-0 to the O'Connor Panthers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Panthers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-0 back in March.

As for O'Connor, they are on a roll lately: they've won 19 of their last 20 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 24-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games.

For O'Connor's part, Faith Mayfield made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over five innings pitched. Mayfield has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one triple and two RBI.

In other batting news, Araceli Alonzo was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, two RBI, and one double. Charlotte Briscoe was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI.

As of now, neither Taft nor O'Connor have any future games scheduled.
