Football Game Preview: Centennial Titans vs. Wakeland Wolverines

Centennial is 1-9 against Wakeland since October of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Titans will square off against the Wolverines at 7:00 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Centennial took a loss when they played away from home last Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They came out on top against Sherman by a score of 16-7. The score was all tied up 7-7 at the break, but the Titans were the (much) better team in the second half.

Centennial didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Chris Chang and Brendan Stephens. Centennial got some further help from Jeremiah Smith: he picked up a sack, forced one fumble, and made ten total tackles.

Meanwhile, Wakeland strolled into their game on Friday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They blew past McKinney North 52-24. The game marked the Wolverines' most dominant victory of the season so far.

Centennial better keep an eye on Jayden Maples. He was instrumental in Wakeland's win, throwing for 409 yards and four touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes. That's the most passing yards Maples has posted since back in October of 2024. Wakeland also got help from Grayson Myer, who showed off his sure hands for 138 receiving yards.

Wakeland's record now sits at 5-0. As for Centennial, they now have a winning record of 3-2.

Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Centennial has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 189.6 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Wakeland struggles in that department as they've been averaging 167.4 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.

Centennial suffered a grim 35-14 defeat to Wakeland in their previous meeting back in October of 2024. Can the Titans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
