Basketball Game Preview: Garinger Wildcats vs. Butler Bulldogs

Garinger is 0-10 against Butler since January of 2020 but things could change on Tuesday. The Garinger Wildcats will venture away from home to challenge the Butler Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. Butler took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Garinger, who comes in off a win.

Having struggled with 17 losses in a row dating back to last season, Garinger turned things around against West Mecklenburg last Friday. They walked away with a 68-58 victory over the Hawks. The Wildcats' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Garinger found their leader in freshman Aaron Lawler, who posted 38 points and three steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which Lawler has scored at least a third of Garinger's points. Another player making a difference was Emmanuel Doster, who earned four points and 17 rebounds.

Garinger smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Butler was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were three points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 57-54 heartbreaker at the hands of Chambers. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Bulldogs have suffered since February 16th.

Garinger's win ended a ten-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 1-4. As for Butler, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-3.

Garinger took a serious blow against Butler when the teams last played back in February, falling 66-23. Can Garinger avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
