Softball Game Preview: Ferndale Wildcats vs. Calistoga Wildcats

Ferndale will head out to square off against Calistoga at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Ferndale will be strutting in after a win while Calistoga will be coming in after a loss.

Ferndale took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They blew past Hayfork 14-1. The victory continues a trend for the Wildcats in their matchups with the Timberjacks: they've now won three in a row.

Olivia Gossi made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She pitched five innings while giving up just one earned run off seven hits. Gossi was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing Three bases. while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

In other batting news, Ferndale got a big performance out of Madison Gossi, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Fallon Bullan was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Ferndale always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .677. The last time their OBP was this high was since the start of last season.

Meanwhile, Calistoga was not able to break out of their rough patch last Thursday as the team picked up their 11th straight defeat dating back to last season. They came up short against California School for the Deaf, falling 11-2.

The win got Ferndale back to even at 1-1. As for Calistoga, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.

Ferndale took their victory against Calistoga in their previous meeting back in May of 2017 by a conclusive 22-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for Ferndale since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
