Doral Academy's pitchers stepped up to hand South Broward a 19-0 shutout on Wednesday. The Firebirds' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Matthew Paez looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, Gabriel Milano and Caleb Hernandez did most of the damage at the plate: Milano fired off two home runs and three RBI while going 2-for-3, while Hernandez went 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Hernandez also hit a double, marking his first of the season. Jaivyn Francois was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
Doral Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .714. The last time their OBP was this high was back in February of 2024.
Meanwhile, after a string of four wins, Pembroke Pines Charter's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They fell just short of South Broward by a score of 2-1.
Dean Jaworski was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out seven batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits.
On the hitting side, Pembroke Pines Charter saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sebastian Gonzalez, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Doral Academy's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-2. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Pembroke Pines Charter, their loss dropped their record down to 5-4.
