Basketball Recap: Caldwell Redskins vs. Shenandoah Zeps
Caldwell was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their tenth straight defeat. They took a 54-47 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Shenandoah Zeps. While losing is never fun, the Redskins can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 569th, while the Zeps are ranked 233rd).

Breighlee Moracco and Lyla Lowe certainly did their best on Thursday to avoid the loss. Moracco went 5 for 8 en route to 13 points and four steals, while Lowe dropped a double-double on 12 points and 13 rebounds. That's the most points Lowe has posted since back in December of 2023. Lexi Franklin was another key player, putting up 12 points.
Even though they lost, Caldwell smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in three consecutive contests.
Shenandoah found their leader in sophomore Emily Moore, who went 6 of 12 on her way to 19 points in addition to eight boards and five assists. That makes it three consecutive games in which Moore has scored at least a third of Shenandoah's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Brenna Leach, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 rebounds.
Caldwell's loss dropped their record down to 3-12. As for Shenandoah, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-5.
Caldwell will head out on the road to square off against Shadyside at 7:00 p.m. on January 23rd. Caldwell has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. Shenandoah has already played their next match, a 56-54 defeat against Philo on the 20th.
