Basketball Game Preview: Jennings County Panthers vs. Batesville Bulldogs

The Jennings County Panthers will challenge the Batesville Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Jennings County has insisted on making their last three contests complete nail-biters, turning in a record of 1-2 during that stretch of close contests.

The home team had come away the winner the last five times Jennings County and Franklin Community had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. Jennings County was just a bucket shy of victory on Friday and fell 73-72 to Franklin Community. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Tuesday (56), the Panthers still had to take the loss.

Jennings County's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Carter Kent, who almost dropped a triple-double with 21 points, nine rebounds, and ten assists, and Jeremiah Davis, who shot 50% from the field on his way to 21 points and three steals. The game was Davis' third in a row with at least 16 points. Omar Gonzalez was another key player, putting up 12 points.

Meanwhile, two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Batesville walked away with it. They enjoyed a cozy 58-44 win over the Pirates on Tuesday.

Batesville has been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 14-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.4 points over those games. Jennings County's loss dropped their record down to 10-14.

Jennings County took their victory against Batesville in their previous meeting back in December of 2022 by a conclusive 72-47. Does Jennings County have another victory up their sleeve, or will Batesville turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
