Basketball Recap: Holmes County Central Takes a Loss

Holmes County Central was the 49-36 winner over Gentry when they last played one another last Friday, but their luck changed this time around. The Holmes County Central Jaguars were just a bucket shy of victory on Monday and fell 54-53 to the Gentry Rams.

Holmes County Central lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was D'Nllya Keys, who posted eight points and 11 rebounds. She is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down 11 or more in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Ratasia Greer, who put up 14 points.

Even though they lost, Holmes County Central smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in four consecutive contests.

Zion Brown continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Gentry, dropping a double-double with 25 points and 15 rebounds. Those 25 points gave Brown a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Za'Kensly Yarbor, who had 15 points and seven boards.

Holmes County Central's defeat dropped their record down to 13-13. As for Gentry, they now have a winning record of 12-11.

Holmes County Central does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Gentry, they have already played their next match, a 65-44 loss against Canton on the 6th.
