Baseball Game Preview: Scranton Knights vs. Valley View Cougars

The Scranton Knights are taking a road trip to challenge the Valley View Cougars at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Scranton will be strutting in after a victory while Valley View will be coming in after a loss.

Scranton was handed a ten-run defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-2 win over Wallenpaupack Area.

Thor Kelly made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 6.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. He has become a key player for Scranton: the team is 4-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 5-6 otherwise. Kelly was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Kelly wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Connor Thomas, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run. That stolen base marked the first that Thomas has snagged this season.

Meanwhile, Valley View suffered their biggest loss since March 25th on Monday. They lost 8-1 to Abington Heights. The Cougars have struggled against the Comets recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.

Scranton is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Valley View, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-10.

Scranton was able to grind out a solid win over Valley View in their previous meeting on April 7th, winning 5-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Knights since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
