Basketball Recap: Pendleton Heights Comes Up Short in High-Profile Game with Mt. Vernon

Pendleton Heights faced Mt. Vernon in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Arabians took a hard 62-47 fall against the Marauders. The Arabians haven't had much luck with the Marauders recently, as the team has come up short the last seven times they've met.

Defeat or not, Pendleton Heights got some senior leadership from Ashaan Singh and Cooper Sims. Singh went 5-for-7 to rack up 14 points and five boards, while Sims shot 55% from the field on his way to 18 points. Sims' evening made it ten games in a row in which he has scored at least 15 points.

Luke Ertel was his usual excellent self, shooting 4-for-7 from deep and dropping a double-double with 26 points and 15 rebounds for Mt. Vernon. That makes it three consecutive games in which Ertel has scored at least a third of the Marauders' points. Another player making a difference was Max Vise, who went 5-for-8 en route to 15 points and six boards.

Having lost for the first time this season, Pendleton Heights fell to 4-1. As for Mt. Vernon, their win was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-1.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Pendleton Heights will be home for the holidays to greet Guerin Catholic at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Arabians' defense better be ready for this one: the Golden Eagles have averaged an impressive 59.2 points per game this season. As for Mt. Vernon, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Anderson at 7:00 p.m.
