Baseball Recap: Canon City Now 9-2 over Last 11 Games

It was a proper cat-fight when Canon City challenged Coronado on Friday. The Tigers put the hurt on the Cougars with a sharp 16-0 victory. The matchup marked the Tigers' most dominant win of the season.

Rocco Montoya tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched.

On the hitting side, Zeke Martinez was a standout: he got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Trey Schumaker, who went 2-for-5 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run.

Canon City kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Canon City is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.2 runs over those games. As for Coronado, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-16.

Coming up, Canon City is taking a road trip to challenge Rampart at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Coronado does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
