Baseball Preview: Grainger Grizzlies vs. Greeneville Greene Devils
Grainger is 1-9 against Greeneville since April of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Grainger Grizzlies will face off against the Greeneville Greene Devils at 5:00 p.m. Grainger has given up an average of 8.2 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
Grainger saw some tournament action on Saturday. They took a 13-9 hit to the loss column at the hands of West. Even though they lost, the Grizzlies' still made a splash at the plate and bumped their average scoring up to 6.4 runs per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).
Josh Walker and Ashton Taylor stepped up to the plate in a big way. Walker scored a run while going 2-for-3, while Taylor scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. That's the most runs Taylor has posted since back in April of 2024. Caden Brabson also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
Even though they lost, Grainger always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .607. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Greeneville got the win against Morristown-Hamblen East on Friday by a conclusive 12-4. The Greene Devils haven't had any issues with the Hurricanes recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.
Grainger's defeat dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Greeneville, their victory bumped their record up to 1-0.
Grainger couldn't quite get it done against Greeneville in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 as they fell 5-0. Can Grainger avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
