Basketball Recap: Commerce's Higher State Rank on Full Display on Friday

Commerce won the last time they faced Lone Oak and things went their way on Friday too. The Commerce Tigers came out on top against the Lone Oak Buffaloes by a score of 56-45. Given the Tigers' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 239th, while the Buffaloes are ranked 710th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Commerce is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.7 points per game. As for Lone Oak, their defeat ended a nine-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 10-9.

Commerce will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Rains at 3:15 p.m. on January 3, 2025. Lone Oak and Quitman will round out the year against one another at at 12:10 p.m. on Thursday.
