Volleyball Recap: Starkville Victorious

Starkville was handed a three-set defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Saturday. They skirted past the Lafayette Commodores 2-1. This was payback for the Yellowjackets, who suffered a 2-0 loss the last time these two teams met.

It was an exciting match in which no team won back-to-back sets, but at the end of the day Starkville got the one that really mattered. The match finished with set scores of 26-24, 22-25, 15-12.

Campbell Davis paced Starkville's offense, picking up eight kills. Davis got some help from Janiya Yarbrough and her 14 assists. Karrie Brooks controlled things from the service line, finishing with three aces.

Starkville has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-19-1 record this season. As for Lafayette, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-17.

Starkville has already played their next match, a 3-0 defeat against Hartfield Academy on the 20th. As for Lafayette, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 2-0 win against Northeast Lauderdale on the 20th.
