While South Bend Riley's win against South Bend Saint Joseph wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Wildcats narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Huskies 3-2. The win continues a trend for the Wildcats in their matchups with the Huskies: they've now won three in a row.

South Bend Riley wouldn't go down easily and took South Bend Saint Joseph into a fifth set where they got it done with a eight-point win. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-20, 25-16, 17-25, 22-25, 15-7.

Austin Pflugner paced South Bend Riley's offense, picking up 15 kills. Pflugner got some help from Tyler Pflugner and his 21 assists. Austin also made an impact serving: he shared the team lead in aces with Oscar Coronado, racking up four apiece.

Despite the loss, South Bend Saint Joseph saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Nam Nguyen had nine digs and three aces.

South Bend Riley's victory bumped their record up to 8-12. As for South Bend Saint Joseph, their defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 4-7.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. South Bend Riley will host Kokomo at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Wildcats are facing the Wildkats at the right time seeing as the Wildkats are stuck on a seven-game losing streak. As for South Bend Saint Joseph, they will square off against Elkhart at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
