Softball Recap: Cambridge Comes Up Short

Cambridge had lost three straight on the road, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 4-10 to make it four. They came up short against the Harrison Central Huskies, falling 16-6. If the Bobcats were looking for revenge after losing 3-0 to the Huskies when the teams met back in May of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Cambridge saw eight different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cami Moore, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

As for Harrison Central, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.4 runs over those games.

On Harrison Central's side, Mikayla Pelegreen made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). Pelegreen has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kelsey Powers, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Olivia Tonkovich, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and five RBI.

Coming up, Harrison Central will venture away from home to take on Indian Creek at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Huskies are facing the Redskins at the right time seeing as the Redskins are stuck on a three-game losing streak. Cambridge will be paying especially close attention to Harrison Central's contest: after Harrison Central faces off against Indian Creek, they'll take on Cambridge again at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
