Softball Game Preview: Lake Norman Wildcats vs. Cox Mill Chargers

Lake Norman is a perfect 10-0 against Cox Mill since March of 2020 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Wildcats will look to defend their home field against the Chargers at 6:00 p.m. Cox Mill took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Lake Norman, who comes in off a win.

On Tuesday, Lake Norman was able to grind out a solid victory over South Iredell, taking the game 10-7. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Wildcats.

Charlee Kelly spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and five unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Lake Norman let Madilyn Billard and Kail Panaccione run wild. Billard got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one home run and three RBI, while Panaccione went 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Those three RBI gave Billard a new career-high. Olivia Wolf was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, Cox Mill fell victim to Hickory Ridge and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They lost 18-0 to the Ragin' Bulls. The Chargers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Lake Norman's win bumped their record up to 10-8. As for Cox Mill, their loss dropped their record down to 3-15.

Lake Norman took their victory against Cox Mill in their previous meeting back in March by a conclusive 14-0 score. Do the Wildcats have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Chargers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
