There's no place like home for James F. Byrnes, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 win over the Eastside Eagles on Tuesday. The victory continues a trend for the Rebels in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now won three in a row.

James F. Byrnes had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first two sets, they turned around to win the next three. The match finished with set scores of 18-25, 21-25, 25-21, 25-23, 15-8.

Eliana Wade paced James F. Byrnes' offense, picking up 16 kills. Wade got some help from Emerie Burroughs and her 51 assists. Burroughs was also solid from the service line: she led the team with six aces.

Despite the loss, Eastside saw an underclassman step up: freshman Kylie Bateman had 21 digs and two aces. Bateman also set a new season-high mark in assists with 19. Another player making a difference was Sarah Angell, who had 19 assists and 14 digs.

James F. Byrnes' win bumped their record up to 7-10. As for Eastside, they dropped their record down to 3-11 with the defeat, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season.
