Baseball Game Preview: Bishop O'Connell Knights vs. Yorktown Patriots

The Bishop O'Connell Knights will square off against the Yorktown Patriots at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Bishop O'Connell is headed into the contest with an undefeated record on the line, something St. Stephen's & St. Agnes almost spoiled on Tuesday. Bishop O'Connell came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 2-1 W against St. Stephen's & St. Agnes. The two-run effort marked the Knights' lowest-scoring matchup of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Bishop O'Connell got a great performance from Mark Zonavetch as he struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Those seven strikeouts gave Zonavetch a new career-high.

At the plate, Bishop O'Connell saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Chaz Walker, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. Another was Kamari Chisolm, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, Yorktown took care of business in their home opener (barely) on Tuesday. They won by a run and slipped past Hayfield 7-6.

Bishop O'Connell pushed their record up to 5-0 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Yorktown, their win bumped their record up to 1-0.
