Baseball Game Preview: Carson Cougars vs. Central Davidson Spartans

The Carson Cougars will challenge the Central Davidson Spartans at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Carson 3.8, Central Davidson 2.7) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Carson lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Northwest Cabarrus, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Tuesday's game. Carson's pitcher stepped up to hand Northwest Cabarrus a 14-0 shutout on Tuesday. The Cougars' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Kendal Sifford tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single walk, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in April of 2024.

At the plate, Carson got a massive performance out of Corbin Hales, who scored two runs while going 4-for-4. Those four hits gave Hales a new career-high. Ryan Snyder was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-2.

Carson always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .588. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Central Davidson hadn't done well against Asheboro recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Central Davidson narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Asheboro 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Spartans have posted against the Blue Comets since March 28, 2023.

Carson's win bumped their record up to 5-7. As for Central Davidson, their victory bumped their record up to 10-2.
