Basketball Game Preview: Westview Wolverines vs. Elkhorn South Storm

The Westview Wolverines just played yesterday, but they'll still head out to face the Elkhorn South Storm at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. The two teams were dealt some close losses in their previous games and are determined not to let this one get away.

Westview is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Nebraska's top teams: Millard North, who was ranked 11th at the time (Westview was ranked seventh). Westview fell just short of Millard North by a score of 69-66 on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Wolverines have suffered since December 30, 2024.

Meanwhile, Elkhorn South didn't have quite enough to beat Lincoln North Star on Thursday and fell 62-60.

Elkhorn South has also been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests, which has put a noticeable dent in their 6-13 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.0 points over those games. As for Westview, their defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 6-1 and their overall record down to 19-2.

Westview beat Elkhorn South 84-71 when the teams last played back in December of 2024. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Elkhorn South's Cooper Mroczek, who shot 5-for-9 from downtown and dropped a double-double with 32 points and 13 boards.
