Football Recap: St. Mary's Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

St. Mary needed a changed in momentum after dropping four straight games and they got it from Michael Trechter. The Pirates took their contest on Friday with ease, bagging a 54-14 win over the South Park Burros with plenty of help from Trechter, who threw for 164 yards and five TDs while completing 75% of his passes, and also rushed for 58 yards and one touchdown on only five carries. His passing game has become a key predictor of St. Mary's success: the team is 2-1 when his passer rating is 110 or higher, but only 1-4 otherwise.

St. Mary's leading receiver Jackson Beam was Trechter's top target yet again, picking up 133 receiving yards and a pair of scores. Beam was no stranger to the big play, connecting on a big catch that went for 67 yards.

St. Mary's didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off four passes before the game was over. Beam led the group effort, picking up two of those interceptions all by himself. He continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. He got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

St. Mary's victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 3-5. As for South Park, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-7.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. St. Mary's will take on Byers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Pirates will need to watch out since the Bulldogs have now posted at least 31 points in their last five games. As for South Park, they will square off against Simla at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Burros will be up against the Cubs' rather soft defense (which has allowed 30.14 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
