Softball Recap: St. Mary's Starts Season with Loss at Home

St. Mary unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They fell 7-3 to the Nardin Academy Gators on Friday. The Lancers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Gators apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Olivia Lange was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she tossed five innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off three hits.

On the hitting side, Ella Dovey made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games she's played dating back to last season.

The victory got Nardin Academy back to even at 1-1.

Coming up, St. Mary's will face off against Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Lancers are facing the Tigers at the right time seeing as the Tigers are stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Nardin Academy, they will square off against Nichols at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
