Basketball Recap: Chapman Comes Up Short

Chapman was the 80-49 winner over Broome when they last played one another back in December of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Chapman Panthers fell just short of the Broome Centurions by a score of 51-49 on Friday.

Despite the defeat, Chapman saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Grayden Humphries posted 22 points. That was a full 44.9% of Chapman's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Hawken Smith, who scored nine points.

Broome's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jordan Ramirez, who had ten points along with eight boards and four steals. Damarius Jeter was another key player, putting up 14 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals.

Chapman's loss dropped their record down to 7-13. As for Broome, their record now sits at 9-10.

Chapman has already played their next match (against Greer Middle College), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Broome will challenge Landrum at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Landrum has been dominant on offense recently, having racked up an incredible 194 points over their last three games.
