Baseball Game Preview: Laguna Beach Breakers vs. Woodbridge Warriors

Laguna Beach has won five straight games at home, while Woodbridge has won five straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Wednesday. The Laguna Beach Breakers will welcome the Woodbridge Warriors at 3:30 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average, (Laguna Beach 1.9, Woodbridge 2.5) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Laguna Beach's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Saturday. They came out on top against Irvine by a score of 4-0. The win continues a trend for the Breakers in their matchups with the Vaqueros: they've now won five in a row.

Becker Sybirski made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over seven innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

Sybirski wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Lucien Reed, who scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Parker Moore also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Woodbridge and Sage Hill meet (four straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Friday. Woodbridge fell just short of Sage Hill by a score of 3-2. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Warriors couldn't push the score so high this time.

The loss snapped Woodbridge's winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 8-3 record. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.7 runs over those games. As for Laguna Beach, their victory bumped their record up to 8-0.

Laguna Beach skirted past Woodbridge 3-1 when the teams last played back in April of 2023. Will Laguna Beach repeat their success, or does Woodbridge have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
