Softball Recap: Monadnock Takes a Loss

Monadnock had lost three straight at home, but on Wednesday they dropped down to 9-7 to make it four. They fell just short of the Conant Orioles by a score of 8-6. The Huskies were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Orioles earlier this season, when they won 4-0.

As for Conant, they moved to 6-12 with that win, which also ended their five-game losing streak. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory they have posted since March 26th.

For Conant's part, Mackenzie MacFarland spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and two unearned) runs on 15 hits and racked up six Ks. MacFarland has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Conant let Khloe Kirby and Merry Hill run wild. Kirby got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base, while Hill got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one double. That double marked the first that Hill has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Autumn Borgoyne, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one run.

Looking ahead, Monadnock will challenge Fall Mountain at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Conant does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
