Softball Game Preview: Owensboro Red Devils vs. West Jessamine Colts

The Owensboro Red Devils will head out on the road to take on the West Jessamine Colts at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Owensboro has struggled recently with seven losses in a row, while West Jessamine will arrive with ten straight victories.

Owensboro came up short against Assumption on Wednesday, falling 20-4.

Meanwhile, West Jessamine made easy work of Atherton on Tuesday and carried off a 13-2 win. The result was nothing new for the Colts, who have now won nine matchups by eight runs or more so far this season.

KK Tate was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

In other batting news, West Jessamine got a massive performance out of Addi Vahle, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Vahle is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Abigail Myszak, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

West Jessamine kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in eight consecutive contests.

West Jessamine's record is now 11-1. As for Owensboro, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-13.

Owensboro came up short against West Jessamine in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, falling 9-4. Can the Red Devils avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
