Softball Game Preview: Momence Momence Athletics vs. Illinois Lutheran Chargers

The Momence Momence Athletics will venture away from home to square off against the Illinois Lutheran Chargers at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Momence has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the game with 20 straight defeats, while Illinois Lutheran will come in with seven straight victories.

Momence couldn't beat Illinois Lutheran on Tuesday even though they stacked five runs on them in the seventh inning. The Momence Athletics fell 12-8 to the Chargers.

For Illinois Lutheran's part, Lola Spada was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over 6.2 innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts Spada has posted since back in April. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Emma Nagle and Mia Jacobucci did most of the damage at the plate: Nagle went 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI, while Jacobucci got on base in three of her five plate appearances with three runs and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Azaylia Sanchez, who got on base in two of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and two RBI.

Illinois Lutheran pushed their record up to 11-8 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Momence, their loss dropped their record down to 0-16.
