Basketball Recap: Baker Falls to Murphy in First Game of Season + How To Watch

Baker unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They lost 71-48 to the Murphy Panthers on Thursday. The Hornets were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Panthers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in November of 2024.

Leading Murphy to victory were Kenneth Smith and Cordairus Dixon. Smith went 6-for-11 to rack up 15 points along with six boards and five steals, while Dixon shot 44% from the field en route to 20 points and five steals. Those five steals gave Smith a new career-high. Kinley Simmons was another key player, putting up eight points and seven rebounds.

Looking ahead, Baker will host Theodore at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Murphy, they and Hoover will face off at 4:30 p.m. on Friday without much rest, having both just played.
