Soccer Game Preview: Hernando vs. Southaven

The Hernando Tigers will face off against the Southaven Chargers at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hernando's last four matchups have been decided by no more than a goal, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

Hernando is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Mississippi's top teams: Oxford, who was ranked seventh at the time (Hernando was ranked 11th). Hernando beat Oxford by a goal, winning 3-2. That's two games straight that the Tigers have won by just one goal.

Meanwhile, Southaven's game on Thursday was all tied up 1-1 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They walked away with a 3-1 win over DeSoto Central. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Chargers.

Hernando pushed their record up to 9-3-1 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored eight goals over those three contests. As for Southaven, their win bumped their record up to 11-7.

Hernando took their victory against Southaven when the teams last played back in December of 2024 by a conclusive 3-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Hernando since the squad won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
