Football Recap: Valor Christian Falls Short Against Ranked Mountain Vista

Valor Christian faced Mountain Vista in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Eagles fell just short of the Golden Eagles by a score of 38-36. The Eagles lost against the Golden Eagles in their previous head to head back in October of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 62-21 score last time.

Valor Christian's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Chase Hanosh, who rushed for 118 yards and one TD, and also picked up 68 receiving yards and one touchdown. Hanosh was no stranger to the big play, connecting on a big catch that went for 57 yards. Channing Fox was in the mix too, providing Valor Christian with three scores.

Even if they lost, Valor Christian's defensive line still kept up the pressure with three sacks. Leading the way was Noah Pacheco with two. Valor Christian got some further help from Roger Garey: he made 11 total tackles (1.0 for loss) and defended one pass.

A big part of Mountain Vista's win came down to the chemistry between Marquise Reese and his top target Brooklyn Bailey. Reese threw for 420 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 10.8 yards per attempt while Bailey picked up 248 receiving yards and one TD. Those 248 receiving yards gave Bailey a new career-high.

This is the second loss in a row for Valor Christian and nudges their season record down to 4-2. As for Mountain Vista, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 6-0.
