The Simon Kenton Pioneers are taking a road trip to face off against the Anderson County Bearcats at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
While Simon Kenton's win against Scott wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. Simon Kenton had just enough and edged out Scott 6-5 on Wednesday. The victory continues a trend for the Pioneers in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now won four in a row.
Tyler Ruete made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched two innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Ruete was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Caleb Uhl, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Anderson County). They walked away with a 7-2 win over Owen County on Friday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.
Blake Johnson looked comfortable as he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over four innings pitched.
On the hitting side, Cooper Burgin was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March of 2024. Brent Johnson was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
The win made it two in a row for Anderson County and bumps their season record up to 3-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 4 runs in those games. As for Simon Kenton, their record now sits at 2-0.
Simon Kenton came out on top in a nail-biter against Anderson County in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, sneaking past 4-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for Simon Kenton since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
