Baseball Game Preview: Copper Canyon Aztecs vs. Sierra Linda Bulldogs

For the second straight game, Copper Canyon will face off against Sierra Linda. The Aztecs will face off against the Bulldogs at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday. Copper Canyon is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.6 runs per game this season.

Copper Canyon will roll into the match after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any runs on Friday, then bounced right back against Sierra Linda on Tuesday. The Aztecs were the clear victors by a 16-1 margin over the Bulldogs. The game was the first time the Aztecs have beaten the Bulldogs on their field since April 28, 2015.

Emmanuel Manjarrez Beltran made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out ten over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 3-for-4. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Jesus Vega was incredible, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, two doubles, and one triple. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabriel Ruelas, who went 2-for-3 with two triples, two runs, and two RBI.

Copper Canyon always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .657. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sierra Linda only posted an OBP of .200.

Copper Canyon is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-4-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.4 runs over those games. As for Sierra Linda, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-6.
