Basketball Preview: Watseka Warriors vs. Hoopeston Cornjerkers

Watseka has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on the Hoopeston Cornjerkers at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Watseka and the Cornjerkers are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads.

On Saturday, it was a hard-fought match, but Watseka had to settle for a 54-52 loss against the Comets.

Meanwhile, Hoopeston had to endure a four-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They had just enough and edged Armstrong out 59-56. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.

Hoopeston's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Owen Root led the charge by scoring 20 points along with seven rebounds and two blocks. Kendrick Sigerill was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.

Watseka has not been sharp recently as the team's lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 13-11 record this season. As for Hoopeston, their win bumped their record up to 17-10.

Watseka lost to the Cornjerkers on the road by a decisive 58-44 margin in their previous meeting back in December of 2023. Can Watseka avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
