Softball Game Preview: ROWVA/Williamsfield Cougars vs. Abingdon/Avon Tornadoes

The ROWVA/Williamsfield Cougars will face off against the Abingdon/Avon Tornadoes at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

On Thursday, ROWVA/Williamsfield got the win against Monmouth United by a conclusive 13-1. The win continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with the Red Storm: they've now won eight in a row.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Abingdon/Avon). They were the clear victors by a 24-10 margin over Princeville on Thursday. The victory was nothing new for the Tornadoes as they're now sitting on four straight.

Addy Onion made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted over her last 14 contests.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Taylor Ford, who went 5-for-6 with one home run, five runs, and six RBI. What's more, she posted two doubles, the most she's had over her last 13 games. The team also got some help courtesy of Myli Webber, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple.

Abingdon/Avon was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .590. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Abingdon/Avon's win bumped their record up to 13-16. As for ROWVA/Williamsfield, their victory bumped their record up to 12-16.
