Recap: Northfield Nighthawks vs. Vista PEAK Prep Bison
After a string of three wins, the Northfield Nighthawks's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They received a tough blow as they fell 57-40 to Vista PEAK Prep. Northfield found out winning isn't easy when you make five fewer threes than your opponent.
Northfield's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Faith Nelson, who scored six points along with ten steals and eight rebounds, and Madison Bethel who scored 16 points along with six rebounds and three steals. Nelson is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last nine games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ana Baseman, who scored four points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Leading Vista PEAK Prep to victory were Amirah Pena and Eianna Jackson. Pena scored 14 points along with three steals, while Jackson scored 21 points along with three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Jackson has scored all season.
Northfield's defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 16-2. As for Vista PEAK Prep, they pushed their record up to 15-4 with that victory, which was their sixth straight at home.
Northfield will head out on the road to face off against Kennedy at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Kennedy will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 186th, while Northfield is ranked 29th). As for Vista PEAK Prep, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Regis Groff at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Vista PEAK Prep knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past six contests -- so hopefully Regis Groff likes a good challenge.
