Baseball Recap: Knightstown Drops Highest Score of Season Against Union County

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Knightstown). They put the hurt on the Union County Patriots with a sharp 26-6 win on Saturday. The Panthers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 matchups by seven runs or more this season.

Henry Schmidt looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Travis Louks was incredible, going 4-for-5 with five RBI, two runs, and one double. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kelton Weaver, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.

Knightstown always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .617. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Union County only posted an OBP of .333.

The victory made it two in a row for Knightstown and bumps their season record up to 13-3. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 21.0 runs over those games. As for Union County, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost ten of their last 12 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-13 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Knightstown will host North Decatur at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Panthers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Chargers have averaged an impressive 8.5 runs per game this season. As for Union County, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Greensburg at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
